PBPA EMPLOYEES RECEIVE TRAINING

Employees of the Bulk Procurement of Petroleum Products Agency (PBPA) have received training on Ethics, Corruption, and Non-Communicable Diseases as part of the government's routine training for its employees.

The training took place today in the PBPA meeting room, aiming to build employees' capacity in good ethics, how to combat corruption in the workplace, and how to control Non-Communicable Diseases.

Speaking at the training, the Head of Public Education for the Ilala District Anti-Corruption Bureau, Ms. Grace Mwakyusa, said the goal is to remind and educate each other about the harmful effects of corruption on society and the duty of public servants to prevent and combat corruption.

Ms. Mwakyusa emphasized that another objective of the training is to remind everyone that being a public servant is a responsibility entrusted to them by the government, and therefore they should carry out their duties faithfully in accordance with the laws and regulations of the public service, and not work for personal gain.

She said that public servants should participate in the fight against corruption by reporting to the Anti-Corruption Bureau whenever they detect signs or acts of corruption in various areas so that appropriate action can be taken against the perpetrators.

"Every employee has a duty to participate in the fight against corruption in the workplace to ensure that the government's efforts in the fight against corruption are successful and to ensure that the nation's resources and public funds are used for their intended purposes and benefit the nation," she emphasized.

Furthermore, Mwakyusa said that the Anti-Corruption Bureau, in its efforts to prevent corruption, conducts various studies in service delivery areas to identify corruption loopholes and advise the relevant institutions on how to close those loopholes.

On the other hand, Dr. Garvin Kweka from Muhimbili National Hospital urged agency employees to set aside enough time for various personal matters to avoid stress that could lead to mental health problems.

Dr. Kweka said that research conducted by mental health scientists has shown that major reasons why people take their own lives include poor or strained relationships with society, leading to making wrong decisions.

"It is important to set aside time for family and community to avoid the effects that can arise in the family, including spending time with children," said Dr. Kweka.

Earlier, the Petroleum Planning Manager, Mr. Gilibert Jungulu, opening the training on behalf of the PBPA Executive Director, urged employees to be attentive, ask questions, seek clarification, and provide full cooperation to the facilitators.

Jungulu said that this training is an implementation of the government's directives as outlined in Goals (A) and (B) of the PBPA Strategic Plan 2021/22-2025/26, which is to control HIV/AIDS and Non-Communicable Diseases as well as the fight against corruption.

In the training, Grace Mwakyusa from the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) presented a topic on the fight against sexual corruption in the workplace, and Dr. Garvin Kweka from Muhimbili National Hospital presented a topic on non-communicable diseases and mental health.
