Minister of Energy Calls for Increased National Fuel Reserves
Minister of Energy Deogratius Ndejembi has urged the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to ensure the country maintains adequate fuel reserves to support continuous production, transportation, and other essential services that depend heavily on petroleum products.
During his working visit to the PBPA offices, Minister Ndejembi said that strengthening the country’s fuel reserves will enhance energy security and ensure a reliable supply at all times. He called on PBPA to work closely with the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) and private sector partners to invest in new storage facilities.
“Reliable fuel reserves supported by investment in storage infrastructure help stabilize the national economy. When there is consistent fuel availability, production, transportation, and trade continue without interruption. This boosts investor confidence, reduces emergency costs, and supports sustainable economic growth,” said Minister Ndejembi.
He added that he expects to see increased investment in storage infrastructure so the country can hold larger fuel volumes and carry out its national functions without supply challenges.
PBPA Executive Director Mr. Erasto Simon thanked the Minister for the visit and assured him that the agency will continue working with the ministry to strengthen its performance. He said PBPA is committed to managing the bulk procurement system efficiently and ensuring the nation has adequate fuel at all times.
He also noted that PBPA is preparing to integrate digital systems that will help harmonize fuel pricing across all ports, which will improve efficiency in the distribution of petroleum products.
