The Director of Petroleum Operations at the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA), Eng. Bruno Tarimo, has encouraged employees to develop a habit of exercising regularly to improve their health, strengthen unity and reduce the health risks associated with sitting in the office for long periods.

Tarimo made the call on 29 August 2026 during the PBPA Staff Sports Bonanza held at Tanzanite Hub in Mikocheni, Dar es Salaam.

“We spend much of our time carrying out our duties in the office. Opportunities like this allow us to meet and exercise together, improve our health and encourage one another to continue exercising individually,” said Tarimo.

He explained that such gatherings also give employees an opportunity to know one another better outside their daily responsibilities, build positive relationships and strengthen the teamwork required to perform the Agency’s duties effectively.

During the bonanza, employees demonstrated their skills and competitive spirit in various sports and games, including football, netball, tug of war, sack racing, volleyball, egg-and-spoon racing, basketball, chicken chasing, bao, draughts, chess, card games and pool.

The Chairperson of the PBPA Sports Committee, who is also a Petroleum Quality Officer, Mr Moses Nyaronga, said the strong participation demonstrated the importance of providing more opportunities for sporting activities within the Agency.

“We thank our leaders for granting us permission and providing the support needed to organise this bonanza. Our goal is to improve our health through sports, and we are pleased to see so many employees participating,” said Nyaronga.

Nyaronga called on the Agency’s leadership to continue supporting sporting activities and enable similar events to be held regularly, preferably once every one or two months.
