PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE SATISFIED WITH THE COUNTRY’S FUEL IMPORTATION SYSTEM

📌 Commends the Government for transparency, modern technology, and reliable fuel supply

The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy, Hon. Subira Mgalu, has commended the Government for the significant work being carried out to ensure that fuel is available in the country on time, transparently, and in compliance with required standards.

She made these remarks on February 19, 2026, during the committee’s visit to fuel receiving infrastructure at the Port of Dar es Salaam, as well as fuel storage tanks in the areas of Kigamboni and Kurasini.

Hon. Mgalu stated that the purpose of the committee’s visit was to inspect the fuel receiving and storage infrastructure and to learn how the Government has implemented a modern technological system that ensures effective supervision of fuel imported into the country.

She explained that the bulk fuel procurement system enables the Government to accurately determine the quantity of fuel ordered, imported into the country, and delivered to importers, while also ensuring that data is consistent and transparent in the collection of various levies that contribute to infrastructure development and social services.

“We have witnessed the significant work done by the Government together with PBPA officials in ensuring that fuel is available on time and transparently. This is a system that provides assurance and safeguards national interests. We highly commend them for this supervision,” said Hon. Mgalu.

On her part, the Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, stated that the bulk fuel procurement system has improved efficiency and gained trust even among neighboring countries.

“This is a system that is trusted even by neighboring countries, which have been using our ports to transit fuel due to the existing transparency and strong oversight,” she said.

She added that the Government currently has sufficient fuel reserves and is receiving more than three types of fuel, including petrol, diesel, industrial fuel, and aviation fuel.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of PBPA, Mr. Erasto Simon, said that the bulk fuel procurement system has enabled the Government to achieve 100 percent collection of due tax revenues through a well-organized fuel import tendering system.
