PBPA PROMOTES THE USE OF CLEAN COOKING ENERGY
The Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) has taken deliberate steps to promote the use of clean cooking energy by distributing electric cookers to its staff, as part of ongoing efforts to encourage a national shift toward cleaner energy use.
Speaking at the event, PBPA Director of Operations, Engineer Bruno Tarimo, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the institution’s role in educating the public on the importance of adopting clean and safe energy for everyday use.
He explained that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, through various national and international policy frameworks, continues to recognize clean cooking energy as a critical tool for addressing environmental, health, social, and economic challenges.
“PBPA plays an important role in supporting the Government’s target of ensuring that 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy by 2034. The distribution of modern pressure cookers to staff is part of this strategy,” said Tarimo.
He also encouraged the beneficiaries to use the cookers effectively and serve as ambassadors for promoting clean energy within their communities, helping to raise awareness and accelerate the transition to clean cooking solutions across the country.
On her part, PBPA Clean Cooking Energy Desk Officer, Ms. Hilda Kowero, noted that the Government has established a dedicated clean cooking energy strategy aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life through the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies.
She explained that the use of electric cookers helps reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal, thereby protecting forests, reducing deforestation, and improving public health by minimizing exposure to smoke that causes respiratory diseases.
To ensure safe and effective use of the cookers, staff were provided with specialized training on proper usage, maintenance, and safety precautions. The training covered efficient electricity use, energy-saving practices, and effective cooking techniques using pressure cookers.
This initiative aims to equip staff with practical knowledge so they can fully benefit from the technology and share this knowledge within their communities.
Ms. Kowero added that PBPA will continue collaborating with various stakeholders to promote behavioral change among citizens, increase the adoption of clean energy, and contribute to building a healthier society and a more sustainable environment.
