THE GOVERNMENT STRENGHTHENS THE SUPPLY OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS IN MALAWI

The Government, through the Port of Dar es Salaam, has continued to play a vital role in ensuring the availability of petroleum products for the neighboring country of Malawi, a step that is stimulating economic activities and improving the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.

Speaking during an inspection visit of oil infrastructure at the Kurasini Oil Jetty (KOJ-1) located at the Port of Dar es Salaam on March 24, 2026, Malawi’s Minister of Energy and Mining, Hon. Dr. Jean Mathanga, expressed his appreciation to the Government of Tanzania for its significant contribution in facilitating the flow of petroleum products to Malawi.

He noted that, due to Malawi being a landlocked country, it heavily depends on the infrastructure of neighboring countries, particularly Tanzania, to ensure a reliable supply of petroleum products.

He further explained that the purpose of the visit was to observe firsthand how petroleum products are received and managed at the port, with the aim of improving Malawi’s fuel procurement and distribution plans.

On his part, the Representative of the Chief Executive of the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA), who is also the Director of Petroleum Operations at PBPA, Engineer Bruno Tarimo, clarified that a large portion of the fuel supplied to Malawi passes through Tanzania under the Bulk Procurement System (BPS), although at times Malawi also imports directly from its own suppliers.
