TRA ADVISED TO COLLABORATE WITH PBPA
The Board members of the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA), led by the Chairman Dr. Lutengano Mwakahesya, have advised the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) at the One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Tunduma to liaise with the Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) to ascertain the amount of fuel entering the country for neighboring countries and to compare it with the amount being passed through the border.
They said that it is important to verify the amount of fuel crossing the border because there has been a significant increase in the demand for fuel going to foreign countries compared to the demand for domestic use.
The Fuel Planning Manager, Gilbert Jungulu, said that one of the reasons for the increase in demand for fuel to neighboring countries is due to the closure of the port in Mozambique due to political unrest, but it is important for TRA to verify this amount in collaboration with PBPA.
The Officer-in-Charge of the One Stop Border Post-Tunduma, Mr. Nsajigwa Mwambegele, said that currently, vehicles transporting fuel outside the country are fitted with tracking devices to ensure that there is no under-declaration which would lead to the government losing revenue.
He said that fuel tankers are allowed to cross the border every day from 4 am to 2 am, and at least 200 tankers are allowed to cross per day.
